Castaic High makes another baby step towards its future development

On June 19th, another Los Angeles County Planning Commission meeting was held, to try to move forward the plans to build a new high school in Castaic. The school had been on a path to open its doors in 2010, however, that may have been pushed back to 2011 after this latest meeting.

[view:node_ad=5]That’s because the County Commission did not rule on the matter, and instead, pushed the issue back to August, delaying the start of construction.

Of the items that are delaying the project, local public opposition is not one of them.

The overall view of the meeting was optimistic and when asked about it, Jamie Castellanos, the Superintendent of the Hart District, said, “The responses were favorable, 99% of the people present were in support”.  No one had stood in opposition.    
 
Things have moved along since the last meeting in April, but many issues still remain.  There are rising concerns about the lack of water, the traffic congestion and need for a new fire department.  Castellanos assures the public that the district has done everything possible, and the progress lies in SunCal’s hands.  
 
That means that the new estimated finish date for Castaic High is 2011/2012.  Yet, this is date is merely an estimate, and changes from time to time.  Support is the first step, but there are many more to go.
