School officials to discuss advantages of site selected, solicit input from future students.
Parents of
current elementary school students in the Castaic Union School District are invited to a preview of the future
high school that is planned for Castaic. The meeting is being hosted by the Wm. S. Hart Union High School District from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 22, at Castaic Middle School.

The Hart
District is hosting the meeting to give Castaic parents an in-depth look at the
concept and design for the school now that the Hart Governing Board has
approved a potential site for the future school. The presentation will be of
particular interest to current elementary school parents, whose children will
likely be the first to attend the proposed new school.
District
representatives will describe the lengthy process used to identify the approved
site and talk about the location’s advantages on the basis of topography,
proximity to student populations, access, availability of utilities,
environmental concerns, expansion opportunities, traffic, community and County
support. The Castaic Town Council has given its enthusiastic support to the
Sterling Gateway Residential site, which has been approved by the Hart Board.
Now that a
potential site has been identified, negotiations will be conducted with the
site’s owners and environmental studies conducted before the site selection
becomes final.
Parents who
attend the meeting Wednesday evening will be presented with a tentative
timeline for location of a high school in Castaic, and will hear details of
what features the new school is expected to incorporate.
“This will be a
first-class high school, with all the amenities one would expect in a Hart
District facility,” explained Rob Gapper, Hart District chief operating
officer. “We are excited to think that plans can now go forward, and we want to
share that excitement with Castaic parents.”
