Castaic School Site Selection Meeting To Be Broadcast Local TV

khts_schools_chalkboardFor those who missed the Wm. S. Hart Union High School Governing Board meeting on Nov. 18 when studies on a Castaic high school site were presented, the meeting will be re-broadcast Saturday, Nov. 28, at 9 p.m. and Sunday, Nov. 29, at 5 p.m.

Times Warner Cable subscribers will receive the program on Channel 20, and it will also be available for AT&T U-verse 99 customers. The program also can be viewed at any time once it is posted on Live.

At the meeting, consultants for geology, civil engineering and traffic presented reports on their studies of three potential high school sites narrowed down from dozens the Hart District has studied over the years. Owners of the three properties and members of the public also commented on the report results for the three properties-the Green Valley Ranch property adjacent to the community of Val Verde owned by Hunt Williams, the Hasley/Sloan property owned by the SCV Facilities Foundation and the Romero Canyon property owned by developer Larry Rasmussen.

At the end of nearly three hours of reports and discussion, the Hart Board elected to continue with Environmental Impact Reports and other studies on two of the properties-Hasley/Sloan and Romero Canyon. The studies will be run simultaneously until the choice can be narrowed to a single site, in order to give the district an option should one of the sites prove unacceptable.

Studies on the two properties are slated to begin in early December, with a goal of opening the core campus of a high school for Castaic ninth graders in August 2013 and the full campus in 2014. Although Hart District Board meetings are not normally televised, the Nov. 18 meeting was taped by SCVTV because of high public interest in the topic.
