The Santa Clarita Valley Senior Center held the 2010 Celebrity Waiter Dinner over the weekend to raise funds for the Adult Daycare Respite Program and Supporting Services.
The event was sponsored by Union Bank, which offered major support to the event.
‘Senior Prom’ was the theme of the dinner. Some attendees got creative with their costumes, representing a variety of decades from the 50’s to the present. There was even a senior court, made up of seniors from the Senior Center.
Local high schools got involved and provided entertainment during the event. High school dance teams performed, and many other high school students volunteered their time to help decorate and create the prom atmosphere.
So how exactly are the funds raised from this dinner? Along with sponsorships and donations, the celebrity waiters are working hard to raise more money during the dinner. Each waiter is assigned to a table. Guests are expected to “tip” the waiters for any service they provide. Whether it’s laying out the silverware, delivering the food, or refilling a drink, the idea is to continue to donate through out the night.
Each year the most generous table is awarded with the Stanley Award. Steve and Diane Arklin took home the award this year. City Council candidate David Gauny was their waiter.
