Water and school board candidates discussed by Chamber board

[view:node_ad=5]Members of the Santa Clarita Valley Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors met on September 18 to discuss the endorsement process for candidates running for Newhall Union School District, William S. Hart Union School District and the Castaic Lake Water Agency.  Carl Goldman, Vice Chair of the Government Affairs Division for the organization stated, “The board felt that all six candidates running for the two school board districts were highly qualified and more that capable to handle the position they were running for in the November election.  Goldman further encouraged the business community and the general voting public to research the issues and the candidates, and to vote for the two persons in each race who most represented their best interests.”  The three individuals running for the Newhall Union School District endorsed by the Chamber are Suzanne Solomon, Mike Shapiro and Christy Smith (the board chose not to endorse the fourth candidate, Don Rimac); candidates running for the two board positions on the William S. Hart Union District board are Gloria Mercado-Fortine, Joe Messina and Steve Sturgeon.

 

The board of directors also discussed the two positions that the electorate will be voting on for the Newhall County Water District Board of Directors.  The Chair of the Board of the Chamber, Pam Ingram stated, “In this race, there are two candidates running who clearly best represent the interests of business and the general public-Rachel Neville and Dan Mortenson.  The incumbent currently holding the position, Lynn Plambeck has not represented the best interests of the community and her voting record shows this.  Ms. Plambeck has consistently voted against progress in our community, stated Ingram.  Through the filing of frivolous lawsuits, Ms. Plambeck has cost the taxpayers of our valley in excess of one million dollars.  She continually uses “water” as her personal tool to prevent high quality growth in our Santa Clarita Valley.”  The board of directors for the Chamber unanimously voted to support Neville and Mortenson.
