Chamber Celebrates Local Talent, New Chairman

Businesses and volunteers honored for their achievements.

The Santa Clarita Valley Chamber of Commerce will have a changing of the guard tonight at the Hyatt Valencia when outgoing chair Charles Gill hands over the gavel to incoming chair Bill Kennedy.

 

Kennedy, an executive with Gruber Systems who also serves on the City of Santa Clarita’s Planning Commission, is looking forward to leading the Chamber in 2009.

 

He has been a member of the chamber for several years and most recently was vice chair of the chamber’s Economic Development committee.

Along with the festivities honoring Gill for his service and promoting Kennedy and the newly-elected Board of Directors to their posts of responsibility, the Chamber will honor businesses and individuals for their achievement.

 

Small, medium and large businesses will be recognized during the evening as well. Nominated in the small business category is Candleman, KHTS AM1220 Radio, Glen Ivy Day Spa, Vino 100 and Summit West Management. In the medium business category, the nominees are The Chip, Inc., Poole and Shaffery, LLP, Stay Green, Inc., Magazine of Santa Clarita and SCV Bank.

 

Vying for Large Business of the Year honors are Princess Cruises, La Quinta Inn and Suites, Mission Valley Bank, AT&T, Inc. and Six Flags Magic Mountain.

 

In addition, five individuals are being considered for the 2008 Special Achievement title; they include Sue Nevius, Sue Reynolds, Kim Kurowski, Jon Gardner and Jeff Lui.

Winners for the evening included:

2008 Small Business of the Year: Candleman of Valencia.

2008 Medium Business of the Year: Poole & Shaffery, LLP

2008 Large Business of the Year: La Quinta Inn & Suites

2008 Chamber Ambassador of the Year: Sue Saffir

2008 Special Achievement Award: Sue Reynolds

In addition Chairman Charlie Gill presented a special award to Mo & Linda Hafizi, co-owners of the Magazine of Santa Clarita and Elite Magazine.
