ChaplinFest Set For February 4 And 5 In Hart Park

Charlie_ChaplinOn February 4 and 5, the William S. Hart Park and Museum, along with the Santa Clarita Valley Historical Society, will commemorate the 75th anniversary of Charlie Chaplin’s classic film, “Modern Times” by hosting the 2011 ChaplinFest in Hart Park.

 

 

Revered by many as the last major film of the silent era, the movie’s final scene was filmed only 20 minutes away from cowboy star William S. Hart’s Horseshoe Ranch. On Saturday, February 5, a special plaque dedication will mark this famous film location on Sierra Highway, and will be held in conjunction with the ChaplinFest.

Additional events will include screenings of Chaplin films, an exclusive one-day display of costumes and props from “Modern Times” including Chaplin’s famous overalls, and access to the Chaplin vendor room.

This event is made possible through the William S. Hart Park and Museum, Santa Clarita Valley Historical Society, the Los Angeles County Department of Parks and Recreation, and Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County.

William S. Hart Park and Museum is located at 24151 Newhall Avenue, Newhall, CA, 91321. The Park and Museum are currently open for winter hours. The Park is open 7 days a week until 5:00 pm. The Museum is closed on Monday and Tuesday.

Patrons are encouraged to visit Heritage Junction, home of the Santa Clarita Valley Historical Society. In Heritage Junction, you can see a variety of historical buildings including the Saugus Train Station and Newhall Ranch House. The Historical Society’s museum is located inside the Saugus Train Station and is open on Saturday and Sunday from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm. For more information, please visit www.scvhs.org
