Even the rain couldn’t detract hundreds of chili lovers from supporting the sixth annual charity event.

The event sold out of VIP tickets and had over 1000 participants, said Nicole Stinson, one of the event coordinators.

“Despite the rain it was still a very successful event,” she said.

Event organizers helped to raise thousands of dollars for the Wish Educational Foundation as a part of the 2018 Charity SCV Chili Cook-Off.

“Normally we choose a couple charities to support and we split the proceeds,” Amanda Benson, Marketing Consultant and Event Organizer said. “We chose (Wish educational Foundation) because they reach all of our middle schools and high schools in the Hart District.”

The Wish Educational Foundation intends to use the money raised for public school libraries, which are used by over 23,000 Santa Clarita Valley students.

“They approached me and said we would love for you guys to be a part of this and we want to make you the beneficiary,” said Amy Daniels, executive director of the Wish Educational Foundation. “So we are very proud to be a part of it.”

The cook-off featured 44 different chili recipes, judged by a panel of three celebrity hosts.

The judging panel included, American-Gladiators “Ice” Lori-Fetrick, MasterChef Junior Competitor Mackenzie Patten and City Council Member Cameron Smyth.

The SCV Chili Cook Off offered general and VIP admission, live music by the The Grizwalds, alcoholic beverages and a silent auction.

Santa Clarita-based Whitening Lightning Teeth Whitening Products and Gerard  Cosmetics were the cook-off’s presenting sponsors, along with KHTS AM-1220 and 98.1 FM and more than 40 other local companies sponsoring the charity event.
