Tanner was arrested Friday night after the string of crimes that started on the 14 Freeway near Sylmar and continued on into the Santa Clarita Valley. The first incident was the stabbing of Tanner’s mother, authorities said. She was pushed from their car. Authorities said she is expected to survive her wounds.

Other incidents included crashing into vehicles, carjacking and crashing a vehicle with a 4-year-old child inside, carjacking a Sheriff’s patrol car and leading deputies on a chase crashing that vehicle too. The child was recovered from the first carjacked car. He, his mother and several Sheriff’s deputies were treated for injuries in connection with the melee, authorities said.

If convicted, the defendant faces a possible sentence of life in prison with the possibility of parole.

Deputy District Attorney Carolyn McNary of the San Fernando office filed the case. It was assigned to Deputy District Attorney William S. Chung to prosecute.
