Made ya look.
In an attempt to prove that Santa Clarita takes itself far too seriously, KHTS is hosting the 33rd Annual Back To School Comedy Extravaganza at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Canyon Theatre Guild.
School has nothing to do with it. You will not learn anything, other than perhaps a few jokes to share with your pals. You could tell people you are at a “back to school” night if you need an excuse to get out of a board meeting. But there are no tests and no grades.
But there is a chicken involved.

Chick-Fil-A will give a coupon for a free chicken sandwich to everyone who buys a ticket to the show. It’s not clear whether headliner Brandon Gibson’s love for the Memphis-based poultry pusher had anything to do with it, but we do have it on good authority that every employee of the drive-thru window calls him by his first name.
Followed by “sir,” of course. That Southern hospitality is a welcome touch.
And (drum roll please, or rim shot, as appropriate) the comic who has thrown himself on the mercy of the audience for the “Safety Net Comedy” part of the show has been named: Kurt Tocci, a 19-year old California comic who’s got a following on YouTube and whose picture is featured above because we already ran Gibson’s with the last story, will be the one in the center of the circle with a live mike, surrounded – but not intimidated – by Gibson, Patrick Keane and Lou Santini, who will be on the ready with a punch line, an improv suggestion, or a rope.
What Tocci does with the rope, well, you won’t know unless you buy a ticket.
Doors open at 6:45; no-host bar (proceeds go to the Canyon Theatre Guild). Show begins at 7:30 p.m.
Tickets are available at KHTS (661) 298-1220, from the CTG box office (661) 799-2702 or at the door.
