This year’s Kid Expo is scheduled for 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Sunday, October 15 at Golden Valley High School.

In addition to child-oriented exhibits and attractions, at this year’s event will be an all-day DJ with numerous contests at the main stage, according to Child & Family Center officials.

The goal of the Kid Expo is to “help parents find ways to get their kids involved in activities, improve their sense of self esteem and improve their social skills,” according to Cheryl Jones, vice president of the Child & Family Center Foundation and the event’s coordinator. The proceeds from the Kid Expo benefit the Child & Family Center, which provides specialized services for Santa Clarita Valley families, Jones said.

The main stage has been moved indoors this year to be closer to the exhibits. In addition, each child will be given a road map they can use to scout out and find each of the exhibits on display. Every child who visits all of the booths on the map is eligible for a special prize.

There are currently over 100 child-oriented exhibits and attractions planned for display in the gymnasium. Karate demonstrations, dance displays and sports exhibitions are planned. Local business Remo Drums is planning a Community Drum Circle at the event. Also planned for display are new children’s books, local tutoring services and fitness programs.

Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital is the new title sponsor of this year’s event. Other active sponsors include Heritage Sierra Medical Group, Gilbertson and LeCorny Orthodontics, Snow Orthodontics, As You Wish Pottery Painting Place, T.K. Martial Arts, Mission View Public Charter, the City of Santa Clarita Public Library and Santa Clarita Soccer Center. Media sponsors include The Magazine of Santa Clarita, Signal Multimedia and KHTS AM-1220.

Golden Valley High School is located at 27051 Robert C. Lee Pkwy, Santa Clarita, CA 91321. Parking is available at the school.
