The
CHP will be stopping vehicles in a sobriety checkpoint here in the valley from 8:30 tonight until 2:30 tomorrow morning in an attempt to get drunk drivers
off the road.
The location is undisclosed, but the message is clear: DON’T
drink and drive.
"The goal of the DUI checkpoint is to create awareness among the motoring public, to deter people from driving under the influence and to keep the streets safe for all," said Officer John Lutz, public information officer for the Newhall station. "Checkpoints tend to reduce the number of drinking drivers on the road. Even though arrest totals do not rise dramatically, the psychological influence a checkpoint has on the motoring public is of major value."
