The collision happened at 7:45 p.m. on the northbound I-5 (Golden State Freeway) one-half mile south of Calgrove Blvd. A red Freightliner tractor/trailer driven by Jose G. Ramirez of Los Angeles collided with a black Honda Accord driven by Newhall resident Brian Doane.

Doane was able to maintain control of his car and pull over, but Ramirez went over the embankment, where the truck burst into flames. He was unable to escape and died at the scene.

Doane was able to provide a statement, but officials are hoping to talk with independent witnesses. If you have any information regarding this collision, please call the CHP at (661) 294-5540 or toll free at (800) TELL-CHP.
