City Aquatic Center Hosts Junior Olympics

Record breaker Ella Eastin was among feature swimmers.
[view:node_ad=5]The February 2008 Issue of “Swimming WorldMagazine” features Ella Eastin, a ten year old swimmer fromIrvine, who on the morning of August 5, 2007, broke the UnitedStates Record in the 50-yard Butterfly for 10 and under girls atthe Southern California Junior Olympics swim meet.

This prestigious five day event, supported by the City of SantaClarita, was held from Wednesday, August 1 through Sunday, August5, 2007 and was hosted by the City’s state-of-the-art SantaClarita Aquatic Center.
     

“Aquatic Center on the national stage, recognizing it as apremier facility to compete at,” commented CouncilmemberMarsha McLean, who was in attendance the day Ella broke the recordand experienced firsthand the excitement with the crowd inattendance.

The Junior Olympics showcased some of the best swimming talentthroughout California and the United States, and brought togethermore than 70 swim clubs who were in pursuit of the coveted SouthernCalifornia Junior Olympic Championship title with more than 1,000competitors who vied for the Junior Olympic gold medal. The eventsfor the Junior Olympic competition ranged from 50 meter sprints to1,500 meter long-distance races.  

The Santa Clarita Aquatic Center is a three-acre, aquatic facilitythat offers three pools, including a 50 meter competition pool witha competition timing system, a 25 meter dive pool, and an activitypool complete with water play equipment and a 160 foot water slide.The Center offers aquatic opportunities for every level of swimmer,as well as swim lessons, Jr.  Lifeguard training, andrecreational swimming and activities. Santa Clarita Aquatic Centeris located at 20880 Centre Pointe Parkway in Santa Clarita.  

The new $9 million facility also provides concession facilities,lockers and changing rooms on the landscaped and lighted groundswith plenty of parking and ample deck space for simply loungingaround.
