Santa Clarita prepares for new bicycle roads.

[view:node_ad=5]  The City of Santa Clarita was recently awarded a $141,723 grant from the State of California’s “Bicycle Transportation Account Grant” (BTA).

The grant money is part of the City’s ongoing commitment to improve non-motorized modes of travel in the City. 

This year is the first time the City of Santa Clarita was eligible to receive the grant, and the money awarded will go towards restriping and installing bicycle lanes and routes on streets in the Industrial Center.

Other improvements include a Class II bike lane on Avenue Stanford from Newhall Ranch Road to Rye Canyon Road, a Class II bike lane on Avenue Scott from Avenue Rockefeller to Rye Canyon Road, and a Class III bike route on Avenue Stanford from Rye Canyon Road to Avenue Scott.

These improvements are scheduled to be installed in late 2009. 

“Implementation of this project will help support the City’s recently adopted Non-Motorized Transportation Plan (NMTP), by encouraging bicycling for recreation and work-related trips,” said Robert Newman, Director of Public Works for the City.

This project will connect existing City bicycle facilities at Newhall Ranch Road and at Avenue Scott.

Only 19 BTA grants were awarded statewide and only three projects in Los Angeles County received grants.
