City Calling on Artists

The City of Santa Clarita, Arts and Events Office and the Santa Clarita Arts Advisory Commission is calling all artists to commission artwork for the California Bear Project. The artwork will be on display in the City of Santa Clarita at a prominent location during a cultural festival or recreational event for the AMGEN Tour of California, which will be in Santa Clarita on Saturday, February 24, 2007.

The artwork is based on the theme of America’s most important cycling race.  After the AMGEN Tour of California, the artwork will be placed on permanent display in the City of Santa Clarita.

The California Bear project is open to all artists, ages 18 and over who live within a 100-mile radius of the City of Santa Clarita. Artist teams, including teams of artists from multiple disciplines, are eligible to apply.

Each artist is requested to develop a work of art to be implemented on a four feet wide, five feet tall, 9 feet long fiberglass bear by means of painting or other artistic methods.

Interested artists must prepare and submit a letter of interest, current resume, full color drawing of the proposed art work to be applied to the sculpture of the bear, five examples of the artist’s work, annotated slide/ photograph list, references, a self-addressed stamped envelope, and may include up to three selections of support materials.

Artists interested in being considered for the “The AMGEN Tour of California Bear” must apply by Friday, December 22, 2006.
