Santa Clarita commemorates 20 years of achievements and honors late parks commissioner.
The city of Santa Clarita will celebrate its 20th birthday Saturday morning by opening the city’s 20th park! The public is invited to the 11 o’clock ribbon-cutting at Todd Longshore Park on Whites Canyon Road at Canyon Crest. Lunch will be served and there will be giveaways. Park at Canyon High School and take the shuttle to the city’s newest playground with a spectacular view of the valley.
The park is named after the late parks commissioner who died in April 2006. As well as serving the city on the commission, Longshore volunteered as a youth sports coach for many years.
The 32-acre, $4.5 million park includes two children’s play areas with a handicap accessible play area for children ages 5-12; shaded picnic areas with tables, a walking path, amphitheater, open turf for passive play and a scenic overlook with seating areas, hiking trails and trees.
