City, COC Agree On PAC Funding

A special joint meeting of the College of the Canyons Board of Trustees and the Santa Clarita City Council resulted in the approval of a new partnership between the two with regards to the Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center (PAC).

The City had originally donated $2.4 million during the construction of the Performing Arts Center, and contributed $20,000 per year towards the Managing Director’s salary. In return, the City was given priority dates for the PAC stage, and they distributed them to local performing arts groups.

However, the original agreement was set to be revised some time ago, and College of the Canyons expressed a need for ongoing maintenance of the facility and additional contributions.

As a result, the new agreement now increases the City’s financial contribution to $70,000 per year, and allows them jurisdiction over 83 dates.

The new agreement expires June 30, 2011.
