The Santa Clarita City Council will address their local project wish list at Tuesday night’s City Council meeting. As part of the city’s bid to receive Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) funds, city staff has compiled grant requests totaling over $54 million for a host of local projects.

[view:node_ad=5]The city will not find out how much money it will receive from the MTA until September; however they have broken down their financial needs by project.

The city hopes to widen the Golden Valley Bridge over highway 14 as well as the McBean Parkway Bridge over the Santa Clara River.

Adding a class 1 bike path along Railroad Avenue is another project among the requests, along with a roundabout installation at Main Street and Newhall Avenue.

New bike rules will also be discussed at Tuesday night’s meeting. Ambiguity in regards to whether or not bicycles are allowed on sidewalks has prompted the city to write a specific ordinance dealing with sidewalk/bicycle etiquette.

If passed Tuesday night, the city will be officially granting access for bicycles to use the sidewalk provided they yield to all pedestrians and operate at a reasonable speed. Bicycling on sidewalks will not be permitted in business districts and when there is a designated bike lane or path available.
