City Council Hosts Special Meeting On Immigration

khts_citymatters_scvlogoThe City of Santa Clarita City Council will host a Special Meeting on Immigration Education on Monday, June 28 at 6:00 p.m. at the City’s Activities Center. The meeting will feature three separate presentations on the various complex issues relating to immigration. Following the presentations the public will have an opportunity to speak and the City Council will discuss the issue.

The three presentations to the City Council will address different aspects of the legalities of immigration. The Academic Presentation will feature a scholar presenting information on the Bracero Program, the Immigration Act of 1986, what has transpired since, and offer a review of current immigration dialogue at the national level.

The Law Enforcement Presentation will feature representatives from the Immigration Customs Enforcement (ICE) Agency and the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department discussing their roles and authority as it relates to enforcing matters involving immigrants.

The City Attorney Presentation will provide an overview on the recent court ruling related to the City of Redondo Beach and its relevance to Santa Clarita.

The Special Meeting on Immigration Education is free and open to the public. The Santa Clarita Activities Center is located at located at 20880 Centre Point Parkway with the meeting held in the Santa Clarita Room A & B.
