City Council Passes Budget

City Approves $165 million for 2008/2009 fiscal year.

[view:node_ad=5]While the budget process in Sacramento may be a long, tedious battle, our process here in Santa Clarita is a little bit different.

Two weeks ago, City Manager Ken Pulskamp outlined the CIty’s proposed $165 million dollar budget, which includes new expenditures while continuing to spend millions less than the City is estimating taking in.

Among the new projects include $30,000 extra dollars for new city art projects, as well as 3 new sheriff’s personnel.

Other new projects such as an expansion of Central Park may also take flight, but the CIty will wait an additional 6 months to get a clearer picture of the estimated income before moving forward. If income numbers are falling short of the estimates, then the City may postpone the expansion projects.

The City is doing well, according to Pulskamp, even though tough economic times are taking their toll on many communities in the United States.

The Santa Clarita City Council also took up new language that makes street-side vendors conform to more restrictions. To read about this story and to get a full wrap up of Tuesday's Council meeting, click here .
