City Encourages Residents To Sign Up For Alert System

USETHISCITYSEALThe City of Santa Clarita is encouraging residents and community members to subscribe to a new critical alert system, called Nixle, to receive information ranging from emergency alerts to community news by way of text messages, email, Facebook and Twitter.

The Nixle Community Information Service is a tool exclusively for local, state, and Federal governments that provides geographically-targeted information to subscribers through an authentic and secure communication platform.

“In a crisis situation, timely information saves lives. The Nixle Community Information Service will help the City send important emergency and community information directly to subscribers by way of text message, email notification and social media alerts,” commented Mayor Marsha McLean.

Using the latest in technology, the City can immediately notify Santa Clarita Nixle subscribers of a specific event or emergency, providing residents and community members with timely and trustworthy information relevant to their neighborhood. Important messages may include public safety emergency information about brush fires or earthquakes, road conditions and closures, evacuations as well as other relevant safety and community event information.

Residents and community members can subscribe to receive emergency alerts, community news or messages from other local agencies, such as the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Department. Subscribers can select if they’d like to receive alerts by text message or email. Emergency notifications will also be available on the City’s Facebook and Twitter accounts.

The City’s new emergency notification service is secure, reliable and free for residents to use.  Standard text messaging rates do apply.

Community members can subscribe to Nixle by visiting santa-clarita.com/eAlerts or by texting SCEMERGENCY to 888777. Subscribers are also encouraged to “friend” and “follow” the City’s Facebook and Twitter accounts for emergency alerts and news.
