City Expands Open Space On Eastside

900-acre parcel is largest acquisition in city's history.

The City of Santa Clarita added 900 acres of greenbelt to its open spaces on Wednesday, dedicating land at the head of Golden Valley Ranch trail.

The parcel, which is the largest open space acquisition in the city’s history, includes area bordering the Placerita Nature Center and parts of Sand Canyon and the Fair Oaks Ranch community.

Of the open space surrounding the city, 3,213 acres are held solely by the city of Santa Clarita and 15,000 are held in concert with other government agencies.
