City Files Northpark Annexation This Week

The Northpark development, consisting of 2,113 total dwelling units, may become the City’s 25th successful annexation since cityhood if the Local Agency Formation Commission (LAFCO) approves the application submitted by the City of Santa Clarita this week.

Northpark’s 501-acre application includes a population of 5,916 residents, the majority of whom have told City staff that they want to be part of the City of Santa Clarita.

The City submitted the LAFCO application this week. It usually takes anywhere from six to eight months to complete an annexation with LAFCO.

Once annexed to the City of Santa Clarita, Northpark residents will enjoy a higher level of police services, they will be able to vote in City municipal elections, and will no longer have to pay a 5% utility users tax.

“The Northpark annexation process has been very smooth. We haven’t had any opposition from the residents. The community in Northpark seems very excited to be part of the City and we are extremely pleased to have Northpark join the City,” explained Kai Luoma, Senior Planner and Annexation Coordinator for the City of Santa Clarita.
