City Gives Money To Senior Center

santaclaritasealWednesday morning, Mayor Laurene Weste and City Manager Ken Pulskamp will present a check in the amount of $187,500 to the Santa Clarita Valley Committee on Aging. The money will help support the services provided to our aging population.

The city’s contribution will benefit many programs of the senior center including programs for recreation, wellness, and those related to transit such as the home-delivered meals program, adult daycare program, handy worker program, and countless others.

The City of Santa Clarita has an ongoing funding program for the SCV Senior Center and the Committee on Aging has upped their amount $50,000 because of recent hardships that the Senior Center has faced.

“This will help us tremendously,” said Kathy Crone, Fund Development Director of the SCV Senior Center. “Budgets for many programs of the Senior Center were cut last year and with the one home delivered truck stolen, and another damaged, we need every penny.”

“Our goal is to keep the Senior Center running effectively,” said Mayor Laurene Weste, former board member of the Committee on Aging. “The Center is a home away from home for our seniors and is a tremendous force in preserving the wellness of seniors.”

The amount that the Senior Center will receive tomorrow is only half of what the city will donate to the center.
