City Holds Grand Opening for New Trail

The City of Santa Clarita is proud to announce the grand opening of the Canyon View Regional Trail, to be held on Wednesday, March 15, 2006 at 10:00 am. Mayor Laurene Weste and members of the City Council will be on hand to cut the ribbon for the new trail, which includes a half mile of Class I shared-use bike paths and pedestrian walkways along the Santa Clara River. The new Canyon View Regional Trail extends from Canyon View Drive at the Soledad Canyon Road Bridge over-crossing, where the Santa Clara River Trail terminates, to the future site of Discovery Park. This project is the first phase of the Discovery Park Project, which will include the development of 25 acres of parkland for recreational use. A portion of the funding for the new trail came from the California Department of Transportation, under a program called Transportation Enhancement Activities (TEA). The remainder of the cost was locally funded by the City’s General Fund, Proposition A, and Bikeway Funds. “The City is pleased to be opening this beautiful new trail,” said Rick Gould, Parks Director for the City. “The landscaping and walkways make for an amazing view along the Santa Clara River and this project falls in line with the City’s goal of preserving our valley’s natural landscape while creating new trails for our citizens to use.” Members of the public are invited to attend the free grand opening event and to explore the beautiful new trail.

The ceremony will be held at Canyon View Drive, north of Soledad Canyon Road at Camp Plenty Road. To RSVP for the grand opening or for more information, please call 661/259-2489.
