City Hosts 4th Annual Newhall Artwalk

The City of Santa Clarita Arts & Events Office is proud to present the fourth annual Newhall Art Walk, October 1 through October 31, 2005. Ten businesses along San Fernando Road, and ten local and regional artists have partnered for this innovative project.

Using materials and products from an assigned store, artists will create original and thought-provoking works of art which will be displayed in retail space made available by each respective Newhall business.

The project was designed to raise awareness of the visual arts in Santa Clarita, to advance the implementation of the Arts and Theater District as part of the downtown Newhall redevelopment plan, and to foster economic growth in a neighborhood of historic significance.

Participating businesses in downtown Newhall include: Abe’s Newhall Pawn Shop, Billy’s, Commando Army Supply, El Trocadero, Mercado Jalisco, Newhall Hardware, Newhall Paint, Olde Towne Star, Roger Dunn Golf Shop, and Valencia Bicycle.

Artists Scott Bruckner, Mike Burton, Jane Castillo, Pat Craig, Dianne Foderaro, Sharon Kagan, Robert Koss, Karen Mills, Peter Tigler, and Louisa Van Leer will all contribute a work of art to the program.

An artists’ reception will be held on Thursday, September 29, 2005 at 6:00 pm at the Canyon Theater Guild, located at 24242 San Fernando Road, following a pre-event Art Walk tour at 5:00 pm. Maps will be available at the reception, at all of the participating businesses, and also at City Hall, Suite 120.

For more information on the Newhall Art Walk or any of the pre-events, please call the City’s Arts & Events Office at 661/286-4018.
