grocerybagThe City of Santa Clarita is sponsoring its third annual Food Drive, benefiting the SCV Food Pantry. Collection bins for non-perishable food donations will be set up at five City facilities: City Hall, located at 23920 Valencia Boulevard; the City’s Sports Complex, located at 20880 Centre Pointe Parkway; the City’s Transit Maintenance Facility, located at 28250 Constellation Road; Central Park, located at 27150 Bouquet Canyon Road and the City’s Corporate Yard, located at 25663 Avenue Stanford.

“September is Hunger Action Month and the City of Santa Clarita is partnering with the SCV Food Pantry to help get the word out and provide more drop-off locations for the Summer Food Drive,” said Mayor Laurene Weste. “No child should go to bed hungry and community members’ non-perishable donations will assist the SCV Food Pantry to help keep those less fortunate in the Santa Clarita Valley from going hungry.”

Non-perishable items may also be directly donated to the SCV Food Pantry, located at 24133 Railroad Avenue. Donations will be accepted during business hours of

9 a.m. to 12 noon, Monday through Thursday and on the third Friday of every month. The Santa Clarita Valley Food Pantry has been distributing food to low-income residents of the Santa Clarita Valley since 1986. It relies on donations from the community to provide supplemental food on a short-term basis to qualified, local residents. More than 1,100 local senior citizens receive food through the SCV Food Pantry’s Senior Outreach Program and, in 2009, the organization distributed supplemental food to more than 6,500 Santa Clarita Valley residents, 3,000 of them children.
