City Launches Whittaker Bermite Website

khts_citymatters_scvlogoThe City of Santa Clarita is pleased to announce the launch of its brand new Whittaker Bermite website at www.whittakerbermite.com. Recently going live, this website is a useful tool that the community can use to learn what is happening with the property, including community meetings, for this long-term project.

The Whittaker-Bermite property is a 996 acre site of undeveloped land located south of Soledad Canyon Road behind the Santa Clarita Metrolink station.  A former munitions testing and manufacturing site, the property has contamination issues including perchlorate, volatile organic compounds, and both soil and groundwater contamination. The land is being cleaned up under the supervision of the state Department of Toxic Substances Control.

The City has brought on the Lewis Operating Company to determine if it is feasible to purchase the property out of bankruptcy for future re-planning of the property.

Economic benefits identified by the City for  acquiring the Whittaker Bermite property include adding much-needed infrastructure, such as major roadway links, as well as bringing new jobs to the Valley.

The City is encouraging anyone interested in the property to explore the website for new information, upcoming meetings, reports, on the project.
