City of Santa Clarita Will Pay Tribute to Western Movie Greats!

The City of Santa Clarita’s 2006 Walk of Western Stars will honor four legends of the silver screen from the “golden era of western movies,” on Friday, April 28, 2006, beginning at 3 p.m. on the sidewalks of old town Newhall and culminating with a western gala dinner at the Valencia Hyatt Hotel at 7 p.m. This year’s honorees include: actor James Arness, most well-known from the hit television series “Gunsmoke,” where he played Marshall Matt Dillon; actor Andrew Prine, who played cowboy Andy Guthrie in the 1960’s television series “The Wide Country” and acted in other series and movies;” actress Rhonda Flemming, a bombshell redhead actress with movie and television credits from the 1940’s through the 1990’s including “Gunfight at the O.K. Corral,” Alias Jesse James,” “Bullwhip,” and Pony Express,” will be honored on the 2006 Walk of Western stars. Also being honored this year is Robert Horton, an actor with decades of film and television credits including “Wagon Train,” “The Lone Ranger,” “The Last Rodeo,” and many others. The Walk of Western Stars began in the early 1980’s and continued until the Northridge earthquake in 1994. The Walk of Western Stars recognizes and immortalizes stars of the western screen and stage with a bronze and terrazzo tile in the sidewalks of Old Town Newhall and a gala dinner. The event was revived in 2000 by the City of Santa Clarita and the Santa Clarita Valley Chamber of Commerce and added to the City of Santa Clarita’s line up of events for the City of Santa Clarita’s annual Cowboy Festival. “We are very excited to be honoring four of the greatest actors from the golden era of western movies. These were some of the pioneers of western entertainment on the silver screen. They helped pave the way for future generations and helped to create the western genre in film and television,” commented Mayor Laurene Weste, City of Santa Clarita.

Tickets for the Walk of Western Stars gala are $100 per person and include a catered, gourmet dinner, commemorative gifts and live, western entertainment. The sidewalk dedication is held prior to the gala dinner, on Friday, April 28, 2006, at 3 p.m. on the streets of Old Town Newhall. Co-hosted by the Santa Clarita Valley Chamber of Commerce and the City of Santa Clarita, the sidewalk dedication includes a hosted reception following the brief dedication ceremony at Canyon Theatre.
