Once a child is enrolled in the “Communities for Healthy Kids” program, they are entitled to receive insurance coverage through Healthy Families which provides low cost health, dental and vision coverage for children and teens that do not have insurance and do not qualify for other assistance programs. Participants can choose from several health, dental and vision insurance plans available in their service area. This insurance program covers most of the cost for visits to doctors, dentists, and specialists, and also contracts with clinics, laboratories, pharmacies and hospitals for low cost children’s health care.
The monthly premium for children is determined by income category, which includes family size, family income, and the health plan chosen. Monthly premiums average between $4 and $15 for each child, up to a maximum of $45 for all children in a family enrolled in the Healthy Families Program.
