“The City of Santa Clarita is excited to launch an innovative education program designed to increase engagement in golf and recreational sports among youth,” commented Mayor Marsha McLean. “Thanks to its modified, fun learning form, SNAG G-ball will aid kids in developing the skills and knowledge they need to play the game of golf.”
The SNAG G-Ball program is best described as golf’s version of T-Ball and is designed to be a fun and exciting entry point for golf, targeted toward kids. The activity-based program focuses on progressive and developmental play in a non-competitive format, and is conducted by parent-coaches in recreation centers, on sports fields and in other public open spaces. Players will learn the fundamentals of golf, including how to putt, chip, and swing using SNAG G-ball equipment including oversized Velcro golf balls and targets.
Additional G-ball classes will be offered in fall 2011 for children ages 5 to 8 years old.
SNAG G-Ball is a grant program funded by the National Parks and Recreation Association. The City of Santa Clarita was one of 15 agencies in the U.S. chosen to receive a $12,000 grant to pilot the new program. For more information on the SNAG G-Ball grant program, go to www.NRPA.org/SNAG.
