City Offers Workshops On Avoiding Natural Hazards

khts_citymatters_scvlogoThe City of Santa Clarita will host two free hazard mitigation public workshops to familiarize residents with the city’s Hazard Mitigation Plan, which helps city planning officials to identify, evaluate, and assess ways to reduce the risk of local natural hazards.

The first workshop will be held Thursday from 12:30-1:30 p.m. at the City’s Sports Complex Activities Center; the second will be held on Thursday, April 29 from 4-5 p.m. in City Hall’s first floor Council Chambers.

The City’s Hazard Mitigation Plan implements damage prevention efforts to lessen the impact of natural disasters, including earthquakes, wildfires, floods, and more, on residents’ lives and property. The plan also creates and enforces effective building codes to protect property from natural hazards, and secures local eligibility for pre- and post- disaster Federal funding.

“The City’s Hazard Mitigation Public Workshops will help to inform local residents about Santa Clarita’s Hazard Mitigation Plan, while offering attendees the opportunity to voice their concerns on local natural hazard risks and issues,” said Santa Clarita Mayor Laurene Weste. “By receiving input from the community, the workshops allow City Planning officials to update Santa Clarita’s mitigation goals to closely align with the concerns of the community.”

City Hall is located at 23920 Valencia Boulevard. The Sports Complex Activities Center is located at 20880 Centre Pointe Parkway.
