Residents in the area and drivers who use this stretch of roadway should anticipate nighttime traffic delays Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:00 p.m. and 4:30 a.m.
In addition to a new bus turn out lane, the Federal Highway Administration funded project will include an extended left hand turn pocket along McBean Parkway. Drivers are encouraged to commute slowly and drive cautiously.
“The City strives to minimize unnecessary traffic challenges through various road projects and advanced notification efforts,” said Mayor Bob Kellar. “This specific project will help decrease traffic disruptions along this busy intersection and improve the overall flow of transportation in the area.”
A project sign will be placed at the intersection along with two changeable message boards on McBean and one of Orchard Village to notify the public of the project. One 72-hour closure of the southbound number three lane will take place the week of April 29, 2013 to safely construct the new bus turn out.
RC Becker and Sons, Inc. have been contracted by the City to construct the project, which is scheduled to be complete by the end of June 2013.
