City Prepares For Bike To Work Challenge

Residents invited to peddle with the Mayor.

The City of Santa Clarita is inviting local residents to join California State Assemblyman Cameron Smyth and Mayor Marsha McLean on Friday, May 11th, at 10:00 a.m. at City Hall for a special Bike to Work Day Kick-off event.

The event will include information about all the bike elements within the City including details about the City's Bike to Work Day challenge, tips on preparing for Bike to Work Day, and bike safety demonstrations.

Additionally, the public will have a chance to review and comment on the City’s draft Biking and Walking Non-Motorized plan that proposes to ease the current traffic congestion in the City and to encourage future decreases in motor vehicle use, by making it easier and more enjoyable to bicycle and walk as an everyday type of commute.

The City of Santa Clarita will join other cities and counties in a state-wide event for the biggest bicycle commute in California, May 14th through 18th.

The City’s 4th Annual Bike to Work Day challenge on Thursday, May 17th, from 7a.m. to 9 a.m., encourages Santa Clarita businesses to participate in a friendly competition among local employers and employees to see who can get the most employees to ride their bikes to work. Participants are eligible for prizes from sponsors including: Golden Spoon, L.A. Fitness, and Newhall Bicycle Company.
