Approximately 30 artists and guests from across the Santa Clarita Valley gathered at City Hall Wednesday evening for a special reception celebrating the two newest exhibits hanging in the First Floor Gallery: “Spring Prints: 2013 Santa Clarita Valley Photographer’s Association Competition” and “An Artistic Discovery: Congressional Art Competition 2013.”

This is the first time in the gallery has hosted two exhibits at the same time.
The Santa Clarita Valley Photographers Association Spring Print Competition took place in May at William S. Hart Hall. The annual competition features member’s artwork and winners in a variety of categories, including still life, digital manipulation, landscape and portrait. Those that received a merit in the competition are included in the exhibit.
Also in May, Congressman Buck McKeon, R-Santa Clarita, invited high school students in the 25th Congressional District to participate in the 2013 Congressional Art Competition. Sponsored by the U.S. House of Representatives, each congressional district across the nation hosted a district-wide art competition to encourage student participation in the arts. A winning piece of artwork from each district was chosen to hang in the Cannon Tunnel of the U.S. Capitol. The works featured in the City Hall exhibit represent the finalists in the 25th district.
These two art collections will be on display through Nov. 29. Other exhibits scheduled for the near future include “Shadows,” Dec. 10, 2013 through April 15, 2014 and “Sure to Bring a Smile: Humor in Art,” April 20 through Aug. 20, 2014.
