City Receives Tree City USA Award

The City of Santa Clarita has been awarded the Tree City USA Award

The City of Santa Clarita has been awarded the Tree City USA Award by the National Arbor Day Foundation for the sixteenth consecutive year. The honor is bestowed upon cities throughout America who consistently meet four standards which are designed to ensure that a given community has a viable tree management plan and program. Tree City USA standards include: a Tree Board or Department, a Tree Care Ordinance, a Community Forestry Program with an annual budget of at least $2 per capita, and an Arbor Day observance and proclamation. The City will officially receive the award at its annual Arbor Day Celebration, on Saturday, May 6, 2006 at Central Park. Mayor Laurene Weste and other City staff will be on hand to accept the honor and kick off dozens of Arbor Day activities. Arbor Day festivities will run from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. Central Park is located at 27150 Bouquet Canyon Road.
“We are proud to be receiving this honor once again,” said Robert Sartain, Arborist Supervisor for the City. “The City works hard to maintain our community as a true urban forest and we strive to educate everyone about the benefits of trees. We are proud that our efforts have garnered this prestigious award.”
