City of Santa Clarita officials have released the results of the 2014 public opinion poll conducted in August, city officials announced Wednesday.
The results showed that a majority of Santa Clarita Valley residents were “pleased” with city services, quality of life and parks, according to a city news release.

“The city of Santa Clarita works hard to uphold our community’s high quality of life, which includes everything from providing excellent city services to producing an on-time, balanced budget with healthy reserves,” said Mayor Laurene Weste. “The results of this year’s poll are a direct reflection of our city’s dedication to providing a high quality of life in Santa Clarita.”
In an effort to learn how residents feel about the city’s job performance, determine areas where improvement is needed and learn what amenities residents want to see the city work toward, interviews were conducted with voters on both landlines and cell phones and were offered in English and Spanish.
The poll showed that 80 percent of residents said they trust or strongly trust the city of Santa Clarita– a higher result than any other level of government –while 73.3 percent of residents said they approved or strongly approved of the city, according to the news release.

A total of 90 percent of residents rated their quality of life in Santa Clarita as good or excellent, and 50 percent of residents said they were satisfied with the city’s fiscal responsibility, finance and budgeting.
In regards to city services, 86.3 percent of residents said they are satisfied with the job the city is doing to provide services and 43.8 percent said they were very satisfied.
Specifically, 92.3 percent of residents are “quite pleased” with the city’s parks and their maintenance, 85 percent were satisfied with special events– a 21 percent increase since 2012 –and city streets and sidewalks had an 86 percent satisfaction rate.

The poll sample included 400 adults who represent women and men of varying age groups, with and without children. Of those who participated, 31.3 percent live in Canyon Country, 13.8 percent live in Newhall, 22.5 percent live in Saugus and 30.5 percent live in Valencia.
