City Says Library Censorship Is Not A Concern

khts_citymatters_scvlogoThe idea that the City will take over our local libraries has raised some eyebrows and also some concerns.

Many have brought up the issue of the possibility of censorship of books in our libraries to increase dramatically as they make the transfer the City of Santa Clarita’s control.

While the County is the decision-maker in book banning, city spokeswoman, Gail Ortiz, is not concerned over the banning of books because she believes it is not a concern.

Ortiz said, “The City has no intention of banning any books. Our intent is to run a first class, high-service library to serve the people of this community.”

The City is claiming that seizing control will help the libraries financially, giving them the ability to provide more service that they would otherwise not be able to do while under the County.

The decision whether or not to take over the libraries will be made by City Council on August 24.
