Calling all artists!  The City of Santa Clarita is seeking artists to create sellable artwork made available through the City’s new Art2Go program, which benefits youth activities, assemblies, and contests to promote arts education in local schools. Art2Go’s concept is to make individual, unique pieces of art available to the community at affordable prices in a convenient, no pressure setting.

Chosen artists will have their artwork displayed in the Art2Go “vending-style” machine, which will be placed at various City sponsored events and locations in 2012.  Each art piece will be sold for $10, with $5 going directly to the artist and the other half being donated to the City of Santa Clarita’s Arts Education Programs.

Artists interested in being a part of this program are asked to submit four photos of their existing art pieces for consideration by Wednesday, February 15, 2012.  If selected, artists must purchase their own materials to create 10 works of art to be available and sold as part of the Art2Go program.  Artwork cannot be larger than 5 ¼” x 6” x 4” and must include printed information about the piece or artist, as well as the artists’ contact information.

“One of the goals of the City Council and the Arts Commission is to make art accessible and available to audiences of all ages.  The Art2Go program does that by allowing residents the opportunity to purchase a unique piece of art, while supporting opportunities for Santa Clarita’s arts education program for youth,” said Mayor Laurie Ender.  “Art2Go is a fun and affordable way for artists to share their work and residents to add to their collections and we hope the community will enjoy this new concept.”

The project is open to all artists regardless of age and background.  All submissions will be reviewed and selected based on the overall concept, artistic quality, and appropriateness for prospective buyers of all ages.
