City Streamlines Permit Process For Solar Projects

USETHISCITYSEALThe city of Santa Clarita is making it easier to incorporate solar power technologies with affordable, over-the-counter permits for most home and commercial solar power projects.

Implementing green technologies into home or commercial projects can help offset the cost of building permits. The permit fees for residential solar power projects total $387, which is lower compared to some cities in Los Angeles County that charge as much as $1,470. Building permits for commercial solar projects in Santa Clarita are $1,700, whereas some L.A. County cities charge an average of $10,000.

Since 2005, Santa Clarita’s one-stop permit center has helped to implement more than 200 solar power projects in the community. Ten certified solar companies in Santa Clarita Valley are available to assist those interested in installing solar power systems.

Before installing a solar power system, interested home and business owners should conduct an energy audit. Energy Upgrade California provides free energy audits and sends a licensed professional to provide advice on improving the energy efficiency of the home or structure.
