On the first day of on-line registration for its summer camp program for youth, the City of Santa Clarita saw $25,000 in registration fees during the first 15 minutes, surprising Recreation staff with a heightened community interest.
“This is the first time we’ve offered summer day camp sign-ups on-line and residents really took advantage of it,” commented Jodi Jones, Recreation Administrator with the City of Santa Clarita.
After the first six hours of sign-ups, the City saw a total of $100,000 in Camp Clarita on-line registration. The City’s summer camp program offers residents a nine-week summer day camp program held at City parks. Mail-in registration for Camp Clarita begins Tuesday, March 22, and walk-in registration begins Monday, April 4, 2005.
Camp Clarita is a day camp experience that provides recreational and creative opportunities for the youth of Santa Clarita. The camps are designed and led by City staff. Each of the camp programs includes supervised activities, such as games, crafts, drama, swimming, field trips, and snacks, plus plenty of interaction with other youth of the same age group.
“We utilize an extensively trained staff to contribute to each camper’s mental, physical and social well being. Each camp location will have at least one full time director and assistant director, in addition to numerous counselors who are chosen for their enthusiasm and their ability to prove themselves as role models to the children in our programs.
“The safety of the children is at the forefront, and all Camp Clarita staff is First Aid/CPR certified and participates in training that ensures participant safety,” explains Jones.
Camp Clarita programs are held at North Oaks, Valencia Meadows and Santa Clarita Parks. The day camp programs run during the summer, from June 13 through August 12. For more information, or to register on-line, log on to or call (661) 284-1466.
