Underwater hockey draws large crowds, city looking for more players.
A Wednesday night tradition is opening up to more players, as the city of Santa Clarita invites residents of all ages to participate in underwater hockey at the Aquatic Center.
The games, which start at 7:30 p.m. and conclude at 9, attracts a large crowd. The sport has been around for 50 years and is played at the bottom of the pool, where two teams face off. Wearing masks, fins and snorkels, the players move the puck across the bottom of the pool in hopes of scoring against the other teams.
The city provides all the necessary equipment for the games, charging a nominal fee of $3 for use of the equipment and facilities.
The Santa Clarita Aquatics Center is located at 20850 Centre Pointe Parkway. For information on participating in the underwater hockey games, contact Recreation Supervisor Christ Lundie at (661) 250-3771 or visit the website at www.santa-clarita.com/aquatics.
