City to Celebrate New Park Opening!

The City of Santa Clarita will celebrate the grand opening of Valencia Heritage Park on Saturday, April 16, 2005, at 10 a.m. Valencia Heritage Park is located at 24155 Newhall Ranch Road, just off of McBean Parkway. Built by Newhall Land, the new park will be owned operated, maintained and programmed by the City of Santa Clarita.

The new 17-acre Valencia Heritage Park includes two covered children’s play areas, three lighted tennis courts, covered picnic areas, a walking path, a special “heritage overlook” trail, green turf fields, restrooms, ample parking and the City’s first-ever “California Bear,” featuring the Heritage Bear.

The new California Bear project is part of the City’s Arts in Public Places program. The first bear project is the “Heritage Bear,” which was painted by a commissioned artist, and includes old and new photographs of life in the Santa Clarita Valley.

“We are very excited about this new park. It is definitely one of the best new parks in the City and offers a wide range of amenities for our community,” commented Rick Gould, Director of Parks, Recreation and Community Services for the City of Santa Clarita.

The grand opening event on April 16 will mark the official opening day of the park and a special unveiling of the Heritage Bear, which is located next to a centuries-old oak tree located at the park.

The grand opening is free and open to the public, however reservations are required. Please call (661) 255-4939 for more information or to RSVP for the April 16 grand opening.
