City to Hold Charrette for North Newhall Plan

Multi-Day Workshop Will Focus On Traffic, Environmental Issues, Economics and Design

The North Newhall Specific Plan continues to make progress toward its initial design phase; the City is inviting Newhall area property and business owners to participate in the planning process. The City of Santa Clarita will host the “North Newhall Charrette,” at the William S. Hart Park in Hart Hall, located at 24151 San Fernando Road in Santa Clarita, from September 25 to 28, open daily to the public from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The Charrette is an intense multi-day working session that will bring the community, designers, City officials and developers together to approach design and development constraints and opportunities. The workshop will focus on the development of North Newhall Specific Plan for the area north of Downtown Newhall, along San Fernando Road.

“This Charrette will provide a unique opportunity for all of the project’s consultants and experts in community design to work collaboratively and creatively in developing the North Newhall Specific Plan,” said Jason Smisko Senior Planner for The City of Santa Clarita. “This similar process was used for the creation of the Downtown Newhall Specific Plan and it undoubtedly will result in a proposed project that will respond favorably to the broadest number of needs for the multitude of stakeholders involved.”
The North Newhall Specific Plan has been in the works since February this year. Boundaries of the 213-acre project include Circle-J Ranch to the north, Old town Newhall to the south, Placerita Canyon to the east and Newhall Creek to the west.
The Plan is estimated to cost $850,000 and take approximately one-and-a-half years to complete.
