“We want the residents of Santa Clarita to be involved in this Plan”
Riding your bike to work or walking to the mall will never be the same again. The City of Santa Clarita is teaming up with Alta Planning + Design to host an Open House on Monday, June 26 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. to discuss ways to make walking, biking and public transportation easier and more enjoyable for its residents. The Open House will take place in the Century conference room at City Hall, located at 23920 Valencia Blvd. in Santa Clarita. Light refreshments will be served and families are encouraged to bring their children.
The City of Santa Clarita is preparing an innovative Non-Motorized Transportation Plan that gives a comprehensive overview of bicycling and walking in the city. It will provide direction for future investments in bicycle and pedestrian facilities and programs. The main goals of the Plan are to ease the current traffic congestion in the City and to encourage future decreases in motor vehicle use, by making it easier and more enjoyable to bicycle and walk as an everyday type of commute. In addition, the Plan will encourage transit use and also address equestrian needs in the city.
“We want the residents of Santa Clarita to be involved in this Plan,” said Debbie Helbig, Project Development Coordinator for the City. “This Plan is designed for them so we want their input, opinions and ideas so that there is a community voice in this Plan.”
The Plan will contain recommendations for additions and improvements to bikeways, trails and pedestrian facilities, land uses that promote walking and cycling, ways to improve access to transit and educational and encouragement programs.
