“Heroin abuse is an issue many communities across the nation face, including Santa Clarita,” Mayor Bob Kellar said.
The symposium, which will be held at 6:30 p.m. in the Santa Clarita Activities Center, will help attendees identify the signs of drug abuse.
The free meeting is meant to help parents understand that heroin and prescription drug abuse are problems that constantly affect families in the Santa Clarita Valley.
On June 26, The City of Santa Clarita invited the neighboring cities of Thousand Oaks and Simi Valley to a tri-city anti-drug summit
“This panel discussion not only allowed city representatives to come together to discuss the issue of heroin and prescription drugs,” Kellar said, “But it gave us the opportunity to share ideas to help deter teens from abusing such drugs and dilute the overall problem.”
In conjunction with the Heroin Kills outreach plan, Santa Clarita hosted a 10 person panel held in response to a spike in heroin related deaths and arrests.
The anti-drug summit featured a panel of experts who discussed such drug abuse issues as: what the specific problem is within each city, what strategies and resources are being used to prevent abuse and fatalities, and what is working within each community.
Produced by SCVTV, the tri-city anti-drug summit panel discussion will air on Time Warner Cable Channel 20, AT&T U-Verse Channel 99 and online at SCVTV.com on Wednesday, July 31 at 8 p.m., Friday, August 2 at 6 p.m., Sunday, August 4 at 5 p.m., Monday, August 5 at 9 a.m. and Tuesday, August 6 at 6 p.m.
