City-Wide Drill To Take Over Airwaves

Community Approach to 12 Months of Personal Preparedness.

ImageIn an effort to promote the 12 months of Personal Preparedness, the City’s Emergency Expo in conjunction with KHTS AM 1220 radio station will be conduct a “Drop, Cover, and Hold” drill.

The community-wide drill will be conducted and broadcast on KHTS, Tuesday, April 17th, at 9:05 a.m.

School district offices, schools, pre-schools, colleges, faith-based institutions, the Valley Industrial Association, and the Chamber of Commerce have been invited to participate in this event.

The Expo promotion campaign will include a weekly focus in April on preparing for an earthquake. Topics include disaster supply kits, family plans, animal preparedness, and drop, cover, and hold drills.

During an earthquake, it’s important to drop to the floor, take cover under a sturdy desk or table, and hold on to it firmly. Each family should create a disaster supply kit that includes: water, food, battery operated radio, flashlights, first aid kit, medication, eye glasses, personal, identification, hygiene supplies, and extra clothing.

Each month throughout the year, the City and KHTS will promote news stories and interviews focusing on improving preparedness with the City Manager, Mayor, and City Councilmembers.
