City Wins Prestigious Award for Outstanding Partnership

The City of Santa Clarita has been awarded the prestigious International City/County Management Association (ICMA) 2005 Program Excellence Award for Outstanding Partnerships: Public-Private Partnerships. The honor was given to the City for the Santa Clarita Golden Valley Project.

The award is given to the local government and its private-sector partner who have best demonstrated the value of public-private partnership. It is thought that such cooperation fosters greater efficiency, innovation, and civic awareness. The City was selected for the honor from hundreds of other municipalities who were nominated for ICMA honors.

For the Golden Valley Project, the City teamed with over ninety community partners to construct a new roadway, Golden Valley Road, the new Golden Valley High School, and brand-new Centre Pointe business park. Golden Valley High School opened in 2004 and over 95 percent of the lots in the business park have been purchased. The newest section of Golden Valley Road was opened on June 15, 2005.

“The City is proud to have been recognized by an international organization for its work on the Golden Valley Project,” says City Manager Ken Pulskamp. “We continually strive to forge effective partnerships between the City, private businesses, and the community, with the knowledge that everyone

benefits from such efforts. This ICMA Award is further confirmation that corporation is key to building a great City like Santa Clarita.”

The International City/County Management Association will recognize the City of Santa Clarita for its achievement at the 91^st Annual ICMA Conference in Minneapolis, Minnesota September 25-28, 2005. City officials from all over attend the annual conference and expo, which is designed to help local governments achieve maximum efficiency and communication with the community. The ICMA was founded in 1914 to provide technical and management assistance, training, and information resources to City officials. Today there are nearly 8,000 members.
