City Workshop To Help Families Deal With Economy

 

The City of Santa Clarita will host a “Coping Skills for Families and Teens in this Economy” workshop on Wednesday, April 22, in the Council Chambers at City Hall.

[view:node_ad=5] A panel of experts will address issues like home foreclosures, job layoffs and budget cuts, and offer tips and resources to help families and teens cope in though economic times.

Topics to be covered during the workshop include Parent-Child Connectedness, Recognizing and Reducing Stress, Healthy Parent-Teen Dialogues, Tough Times and Substance Abuse, College: Make it Happen, and Coping and Cushioning the Impact on Kids.

“During these especially tough economic times, parents, adults and teens experience absolute and common stressors,” said Councilmember Bob Kellar. “Coping Skills for Families and Teens in this Economy is designed to help families cope with economic stressors without placing a negative impact on loved ones.”

The event will feature a Resource Fair from 6:30-7:00 p.m. where local organizations will provide resources and information pertaining to the workshop. The Coping Skills for Families and Teens in this Economy presentation will follow from 7-8:30 p.m.

These are absolute and all-too-common stressors for parents and adults these days.  But teens are feeling the stress, too, while they are struggling to cope with academic and other teen pressures at the same time.  A panel of experts will address these issues and offer tips and resources to help families and teens cope in this tough economy.

Recognizing and Reducing Stress – Lori Van Howten, MFT,  Child and Family Center

Healthy Parent-Teen Dialogues – Kim Goldman, Executive Director, SCV Youth Project

Tough Times and Substance Abuse – Cary Quashen, C.A.S., ACTION Family Counseling

College: Making it Happen – Tom Bilbruck, Director of Financial Aid, College of the Canyons

Coping and Cushioning the Impact on Kids – Olga Lavalle – Counselor, Canyon High School
